What is a mobile boarding pass?
The mobile boarding pass (otherwise known as an electronic boarding pass or eBP) replaces your traditional paper boarding pass when checking in from your mobile device for travel from select cities.
Which airports are enabled for the mobile boarding pass?
Currently, most TSA airport checkpoints are set up to accept the mobile boarding pass on the iPhone and Android app excluding the following: departing out of Costa Rica and Mexico (Cancun OK) Adak, Calgary, Dillingham and Edmonton.
If your travel originates in these cities, a paper boarding pass will be required.
Please note: if you have a connection and you leave the secure side of the airport, you will need to obtain a paper boarding pass to re-enter the secure area.
What information is displayed on a mobile boarding pass?
- Your name
- Mileage plan or other frequent flyer number
- Program status
- Flight number
- Departure gate
- Seat assignment
- Departure and arrival city
- Barcode
- Confirmation code
- Boarding time
- Date
- TSA PreCheck
- Alaska Lounge membership
What will be required at the airport when using a mobile boarding pass?
At TSA checkpoint: You should have the barcode image available on the screen of your device when approaching the security checkpoint or boarding gate. Please ensure the entire barcode is visible on the screen and make certain the backlight is on when the barcode is being scanned. You should also have a valid government issued photo ID available for inspection at the security checkpoint. Show the barcode at your security checkpoint as you would a paper boarding pass. If the scanner cannot read your barcode, a paper boarding pass will be required.
Please note that check-in counters are unable to print a paper boarding pass less than 31 minutes before departure. Please plan accordingly.
At departure gate: Be sure to have your boarding pass displayed again on your mobile phone once your boarding row is called. You will need to show the mobile boarding pass to the gate agent for it to be scanned, as you would a paper boarding pass. If the scanner cannot read your barcode at the gate, a paper boarding pass will be required.
